Pen Type-A® is an homage to our favorite writing utensil, the Hi-Tec-C. We had been using this pen in its plastic housing for years, until we decided that these coveted cartridges deserved a more durable home.

A balance of simplicity, precision and substance, all parts of this pen are machined from solid, stainless steel.

Available in a black cerakote, a ceramic polymer coating. Even though this coating is durable, over time it will wear and reveal the stainless steel underneath, giving it kind of a rugged feel.

Also available with a custom laser engraving.

The deep wells in the cylinders and the square sleeves are painstakingly drilled out from a solid block with a gun drill. This machine uses high pressure oil pumped to the cutting edge of a specialized bit to slowly drill out a perfectly straight and deep well.

The clean and smooth cylindrical pen slides neatly into its sleeve, held in by a magnet once in its final position.

You’ll note a slight popping sound when removing it from its sheath—the effect of high tolerances creating a pneumatic seal, much like a piston.

There is no visible branding on the surface of Pen Type-A®. However, hidden under the coin screw is our tiny CW&T inscription. (Just in case you or your grandkids want to figure out where it came from.) Shown here on the sleeve is an example of a custom engraving you can add to your order.

The stepped geometry of the tip leaves the contact point exposed, so you can see what you are drawing. It is perfect for architects, illustrators, and designers. Inside the ruler sleeve is a stepped area keeping the super fine tip gently rested against a silicon pad.

SPECIAL THANKS : A Kickstarter Story

PEN TYPE-A® was made possible by the support of 4,049 superstar individuals. Our campaign to launch the pen as a real product was successfully crowd-funded on August 15, 2011 making it the 6th most funded project on Kickstarter at the time.

Over 6,000 pens were made in China over the course of our first year of manufacturing. We now make PEN TYPE-A® at a precision machine shop in Vermont, USA.

THANK YOU!

Pen Type - A

I've previously purchased Pen Type B and C which I have used and loved but have since given away to family members. I use a small straight edge for drawing so Pen Type A fit the bill perfectly. It's a wonderful pen and should last a long time. Thanks CW&T.

Just… wow

I’ll be honest, I haven’t used the pen YET because it’s just beautiful. The first thing I did was take it out, and let it slowly sink in. I LOVE this pen and it’s definitely something that’ll last long enough to pass to another generation.

Great, but disappointed with ink ball point

I really love this design, it feels great to hold and use and on the right paper really keeps up with my handwriting and scribbles. But I'm having a hard time with the ball point or ink or something. Maybe it's not the right size, but there are some paper types that I use heavily - like sticky notes - that this pen tip just fails on. That is really disappointing, because I do a TON of note taking and idea scratching on stickies, and I basically can't use this pen on them. So I'm kinda upset that I spent so much on the pen and can't use it on a lot of what I use pens for. When this ink runs out I'll try a different size, maybe the fine-tip 3mm is what is doing it and I need to go bigger? Can you offer any advice? -matt

Pen Type-A

I had originally purchased the Pen Type-B for myself after it initially came out. I have since purchased several more as wedding gifts for friends and family. The quality the materials, the design, and the craftsmanship in machining are second to none. And after just receiving the Pen Type-A for myself, there is simply nothing else like these pens out there. They will last forever and bring you joy every time you “pop” them out for use. Thanks to you all for the hard work in bringing this vision to reality...

pen type A

I left a voice mail for you but have not heard back. The pen arrived on time. But, the ink had leaked all over the pen and inside the packaging. Not, knowing this I opened the packaging and got ink all over everything. Not the experience I had expected from an organization that creates such precision products....
